Stress and Trauma

In Mechromancy, every character suffers Stress and Trauma while in combat or during other abnormal situations, such as augmentation.

Stress

Stress represents mental background damage, at a fairly high concentration, such as knowing that death is imminent. It recovers at Willpower per day.

Stress is received at the rate of damage taken (except in Berserk mode), and at 25 stress, the character suffers one trauma point as well as a breakdown. Stress can also be caused by surprise attacks, and as a result of stealth (both stalking and being stalked). One also recieves a trauma point at one's first kill (though after combat ends).

Breakdown

Breakdowns happen whenever a character gains one trauma point through mental means. Generally it takes a character out of battle, temporarily incapacitating them for three turns, though it can also cause paranoia (roleplaying effect), post traumatic stress disorder, or a variety of other mental injuries.

Breakdowns can be chosen by the Player or GM, and in tactics mode always incapacitate.

Trauma

Trauma represents physical background damage, such as would be caused by surgery or cyberware.

Only 20 points of Trauma are allowed before there are ill effects.

Causes of Trauma

Trauma is caused by the following: War Paint (magical, .01 per point of effect), Tattoos (magical, .1 per point of effect, mundane .01 per square inch), Bioware (1 per point of effect), Prosthetics (10 per point of effect), and Cyberware (100 per point of effect).

Trauma Restoration

Non-permanent Trauma can be restored at the rate of (Constitution/10) a day. War Paint does not cause permanent Trauma.
